It’s been years since I’ve roasted a whole turkey. Our grocery store offered a free turkey when purchasing a Hormel Cure 81 Ham. This 14.5 lb turkey is a Honeysuckle with no preservatives or hormones. I read the instructions on the package, but my own instincts kicked in. This is what I did.
Ingredients
14.5 lb Frozen Honeysuckle Whole Turkey
Butter for basting
Salt
Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil
Directions
- Thaw 3 days in the refrigerator before cooking
- Unwrap the turkey and remove the neck and giblets inside
- Place in a roaster and add 1 cup of water in the bottom of pan
- Spray the outside of the turkey with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and salt it
- Cover, tightly, with heavy duty foil
- Bake @ 325 degrees for 3 hours
- Remove from oven and baste the outside with butter. Keep foil off when returning it to the oven
- Turn oven to 350 degrees and bake another hour or until a meat thermometer, inserted in the largest part of the breast, reads 170 degrees
- Remember that turkey isn’t just for the holidays
