It’s been years since I’ve roasted a whole turkey. Our grocery store offered a free turkey when purchasing a Hormel Cure 81 Ham. This 14.5 lb turkey is a Honeysuckle with no preservatives or hormones. I read the instructions on the package, but my own instincts kicked in. This is what I did.

Ingredients

  • 14.5 lb Frozen Honeysuckle Whole Turkey

  • Butter for basting

  • Salt

  • Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil

Directions

  • Thaw 3 days in the refrigerator before cooking
  • Unwrap the turkey and remove the neck and giblets inside
  • Place in a roaster and add 1 cup of water in the bottom of pan
  • Spray the outside of the turkey with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and salt it
  • Cover, tightly, with heavy duty foil
  • Bake @ 325 degrees for 3 hours
  • Remove from oven and baste the outside with butter. Keep foil off when returning it to the oven
  • Turn oven to 350 degrees and bake another hour or until a meat thermometer, inserted in the largest part of the breast, reads 170 degrees
  • Remember that turkey isn’t just for the holidays
